Clubs, pubs, and bars might be closed during this lockdown, but don’t let the spirits of all your stored alcohol down. Cocktails are the best way to get happy drunk according to us because they taste like juice and hits like a storm. If prepared well, cocktails will make you giggle at one point while dancing on the dining table the next minute.
Make your weekends exciting again with these easy homemade cocktail recipes that will require all the basic ingredients that are mostly present in your fridge or pantry. Once you have mastered this, there’s no going back to all the overpriced drinks that you pay for when you go out.
1. Sex on the Beach
We know you are missing your tropical holidays this summer. Sipping cocktails by the beach and basking in the sun is a therapy that we all are craving for. Now, you cannot bring the beach home, but you can surely slip into a bikini, lay down in your garden or courtyard, and whip yourself some nice Sex on the Beach cocktail. First of all, let’s address the fact that this is one of the best-named cocktails in the history of all the cocktails.
Sex on the Beach required 4 major ingredients:
- Vodka (any of your preference)
- Orange juice/ Pineapple juice
- Any peach based alcohol
- Cranberry juice
Fill up the crushed ice on your shaker and add all the ingredients one at a time. Shake all the ingredients well together till it forms a beautiful red-orange shade. Pour the drink on a high raise glass with fresh ice and some sliced oranges for the added flavor. The blend of vodka with different colored juices looks gorgeous and tastes even better.
2. Pina Colada
Pina Coladas are happy vacation cocktails and by now you’ve understood we are trying to beat your summer vacation blues with these beachy cocktail recipes. Pinacolada is known to be a refreshing drink and dates back its inception in 1950 when they were served in hallow coconuts or pineapples.
Pina Colada requires only three major ingredients:
- Rum (preferably white, but any rum works)
- Fresh coconut milk or canned coconut milk
- Frozen Pineapples
Take a blender and fill up all the ingredients along with some ice cubes. There’s no particular measurement that you need to follow, go all out with rum if you are feeling like it, or keep it subtle depending upon your mood. Blend the ingredients until it becomes thick, creamy, and smooth. Pour it into a glass and garnish with some fresh Pineapple, lemon slice or even cherry to give it a tint of color. You can also throw in some fresh coconut flakes if you are a coconut fan.
3. Lemon Drop Martini
We cannot talk about simple homemade cocktail recipes and not about Lemon drop martini. We love how Martinis always carry both sweet and sour tinge to it. It is one of the simplest cocktails that one can whip up that looks chic, tastes amazing, and even gives you a happy buzz.
Lemon drop martini requires four major ingredients:
- Vodka
- Lime juice
- Sugar syrup
- Castor sugar
Firstly, take the martini glass, make a sugar rim on it and let it sit. Take Vodka, lime juice, and sugar syrup together in a cocktail shaker and shake it till they form a pale yellow tone. Pour into your martini glass and squeeze fresh lemon in it for a finishing flavor. You can also put in a fresh lime slice in the glass for the added citrus flavor. Adjust the measurements of lime juice and sugar syrup in the cocktail according to your preferred sweet and sour balance in it.
4. Red Wine Sangria
We are not going to disappoint our wine lover by not including the cult red wine cocktail – Sangria. When life gives you a lot of fruits in the house, you be wise and make the good old Sangria out of it. This is one of the classic refreshing, a fruity, boozy, and citrusy cocktail that goes well with every season. The best part about Sangria is apart from the basic ingredients, you can customize it any way you wish to.
Sangria requires 4 to 5 major ingredients:
- Red wine
- Brandy/rum/gin/vodka
- Sweet syrup
- Soda/Soft drink
- Fruits of your choice
Chop all the fruits of your choice in a fairly similar size. You can take any fruits of your choice to be it apple, strawberry, peach, pineapple, and even lemon and orange slices. Fill up a large glass jug with all the fruits and mix them well (Pro tip: Use your hands to enhance the fruity flavors). Pour about 1 liter of red wine on top followed by any other liquor of your choice (brandy, rum, vodka, gin) along with some sweet syrup and two glasses of soda. Avoid putting the syrup if you are using any aerated beverage like sprite or 7up. Take a wooden ladle and mix the whole thing well. Refrigerate the Sangria for at least 3 to 4 hours before consuming it. You can also add some spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and even clove to add that spicy tinge.
5. Long Island Iced Tea
Everybody is a gangster, till the LIIT is served. Long Island Iced tea is a cocktail version of an Ice Tea with lots and lots of different kinds of liquor in it. This is a very simple cocktail to make, provided you have all categories of alcohol required. LIIT is a beautiful concoction of gin, vodka, dark rum, white rum, tequila, scotch triple sec, Jägermeister, vanilla syrup, and lime juice.
Long Island Iced Tea required 11 major ingredients:
- White rum 15 ml
- Dark rum 15 ml
- Vodka 15 ml
- Tequila 15 ml
- Triple sec 15 ml
- Scotch 15 ml
- Jägermeister 15 ml
- Gin 15 ml
- Vanilla syrup 5 ml
- Aerated drink of your choice
- A dash of lime juice
In an ice-filled cocktail shake, pour all the liquor ingredients. Shake it well and then pour it into a highball glass. Finish it up with the aerated drink of your choice and a dash of lime juice for added flavor. You can finally garnish it with lemon wedges before serving it too. This is indeed a heavy-duty cocktail, so drink it up on your own risk.
