Before you tend to attempt any of these, remember the following:
- Wear gloves whenever handling natural dyes.
- Wear clothes that you don’t mind turning into kitchen clothes while dying.
- If sleeping it over, make sure to put a towel over the pillow. We obviously don’t want you to dye your pillow covers.
- All these mentioned remedies are natural. Repeat them twice or thrice a week for proper results.
1. HENNA hai na?
If you haven’t seen your mom going through this arduous procedure on Sundays and get a tinge of redness on her hair, then I don’t know how you have spent your childhood weekends. Henna has been a part of the Indian household for centuries now, predominantly used for colouring hair red, henna has impeccable conditioning and strengthening agents to not only colour your hair but also retain the colour.
Based on the actual colour of your hair, the results will vary from light orange, deep red or dark burgundy.
Need directions? Your grandmother would happily help. Other than that, here is how you go about henna application:
Mix in some coconut milk and lemon juice into 200 grams of henna powder. Mix it well and set it overnight for preparation. The next morning divide your hair into sections and apply the mixture. Make sure that every strand is covered.
Rinse it with cold water once it dries.
2. CHAMOMILE TEA for lighter hair
Chamomile happens to be a natural bleaching agent. It effectively brings out a lighter tinge in your hair and highlights the areas that you want to. It is also a well-known upkeep item for artificially coloured hair as it helps to maintain the blonde highlights.
For ombre tips and gold highlighters, at a cost lesser than any chemical treatment, chamomile tea is probably the best remedy.
Find 8-10 chamomile tea bags and immerse them into a large bowl of boiling water. Let the bags seep in for 10 minutes, squeeze the bags for complete result. Add half cup of lemon juice and quarter cup of coconut oil. Take the mixture into a bottle and shake it vigorously. Massage your hair with the bleach solution and sit in the sun for 10-15 minutes and not longer.
3. Miracles of CAFFINE
Don’t we all love a mug of coffee on a rainy day with a beautiful Mills and Boon book? It enriches our soul and keeps our head clear. Don’t be surprised to know that it has similar effect on your hair too. Coffee works as an amazing capability of giving rich, black colour to your hair. Coffee bears tannins, molecules that give coffee its dark rich colour which can in turn help your locks turn dark black and shiny.
Add coffee to boiling water and boil further for 5 minutes. Turn of the heat and let the coffee settle for 10 minutes.
Make enough so that you can soak your hair into the mixture.
After soaking your hair, rinse the leftover coffee on your hair. The goal is to cover every inch and strand of your hair with coffee. Cover your hair with a shower cap for one and a half hour.
Wash off the coffee with cool water and DO NOT USE SHAMPOO. Only use conditioner to restore the effect.

A cup of beetroot juice, half cup of rose water and half cup of black tea. Loaded with oxidants this rinse will ensure a lovely red tinge to your hair. Soak your hair in this mixture, rinse after an hour.
7. The Flower treatment for the Red Locks
For all the red heads reading this article, here is a red hair dye rinse made of flowers that exude the red tint gloriously. Hibiscus and marigold are the most famous natural substances used in the dying industry. Their essential oils have tint in them, making them capable of exuding colour in their extract. A mixture of these can give out a warm red tint to your mane, not too dark to be brown and not too light to be blond.
Find hibiscus flowers and marigold flowers, dry their petals and soak them in boiling water for 20 minutes. Strain the petals to find clear liquid, add 1/4th cup of red wine to the concoction.
